Steve Castle On The Stevenage Game

Hi Everyone.

Firstly thank you for all the positive feedback that we have had from the first blog. To make it interesting we will mix it up and get as many staff/players to contribute as possible.

Our most recent game was our first pre-season game of the season. The pitch looked fantastic and a big thanks to everyone concerned with its revival.

The game went very well, all be it that we went behind against the run of play. Hopefully we get these 'Silly' mistakes out of the way. We must concentrate on clean sheets every match. Thankfully that was our only low point in a very entertaining game. One where in my opinion we played some superb football and created several great chances. Gary Hart equalised for us, quickly followed by an excellent header from Stuart Bridges from a Kaan Fehmi free kick.

We went off 2-1 up at half time. second half we continued to have the lion’s share of possession and quite deservedly stretched our lead from a Craig Hammond header, after an excellent cross from Ryan Ingrey. Arguably we should and could have extended our lead but to be fair to a very young Stevenage team they will feel they could have equalised themselves. Good luck to them and their manager Darren Sarll. Darren is a good friend of mine and often helps me with issues that arise within our senior team.

Now about this time in pre-season the norm is for most lads to get a full 90 minutes playing time, I however feel slightly differently by making sure lads don't get themselves injured as a preference to longer playing time. We still have 2 weeks to go till the start and I want ALL the lads injury free and still fresh!!

We still have our two injured lads in Rob Mason and Luke Robins. Both have been excellent in their attitude and hopefully we will have some news very soon on dates for operations/ comeback times etc.

On to the week ahead and plenty of games coming up. Tuesday we have Langford away. Then on Wednesday we have a very tough game versus last season’s Premier League champions – Hemel Hempstead Town.. Lastly an in-house Under 18's v Reserves.
Plenty of football. So here’s to an injury-free, positive week.

Yours,
Steve Castle.
