ROYSTON CROW LEAGUE CUP
EAGLES U13 3-0 BIGGLESWADE TOWN
A FINE FIRST-HALF performance was enough to seal a semi-final place and the chance for a bit of revenge over Ashwell.
Logan Downie’s early surging run down the left, which earned a penalty, set the tone.
And fortunately, another missed spotkick did not.
It was not long afterwards that Sean Blois teed up Kian Harness to open the scoring.
And after Biggleswade had hit the post, Cameron King and Archie MacLeod combined to set up Anthony Georgiou for another close-range finish.
Other chances came and went and the game could have turned early in the second half if the visitors had made the most of their own opportunities.
But Biggleswade put one chance wide and were then denied by a fantastic last-ditch clearance by man of the match Ethan Karpuk.
Goalkeeper Jacob McGlynn took a kick in the scramble but recovered to continue another good display of handling.
Biggleswade rarely threatened again as Eagles pressed for a decisive third goal, with Downie rampant down the left as ever.
MacLeod saw a free kick come off the bar and another effort kept out by an amazing save, while his team-mates were strangely reluctant to get on the end of his great deliveries from corners.
So in the end, he scored from one directly and that was that.
Harness forced another save from the Biggleswade ‘keeper but there was no escape for the visitors from a cup exit.
The semi final against Ashwell will give the Eagles an opportunity to make up for the recent 4-3 home defeat and to reach the final which a talented and hard-working squad probably deserves.
