|Match||Godalming Town v Royston Town|
|Competition||Evo-Stik League Southern: Division One Central|
With the weather impacting on many fixtures over the last couple of weeks Royston set off from a still frozen Garden Walk expecting to be greeted with a thawed heavy sodden pitch at Wey Court but to their surprise were presented with a near perfect pitch and pleasant although cold weather conditions.
The lack of matches seemed to affect Royston more than their opponents and they struggled to get an early foothold in the game. By contrast Godalming started brightly and created two good chances before they eventually took the lead in the 22nd minute when a long ball exposed Royston’s defence and Wheeler evaded Theobald's last gasp challenge to break clear and easily slot past Tewkesbury in the Crows goal.
As the game developed it was dramatically changed when the referee showed a flurry of cards, yellows to the Godalming number 11 for a reckless challenge on Ingrey and the G’s skipper for what appeared to be persistent complaining were followed two minutes later with a straight red for Royston’s Scott Bridges for what was deemed to be an attempted headbutt which perplexed the majority of the watching crowd who were still discussing the decision as the teams left the field five minutes later.
A shuffle of the pack at half time saw Fehmi and Boot replace Lockett and Collins and the changes spurred the Crows into life. A superb interchange between the two substitutes saw Fehmi fire a shot across the G’s goal and Ingrey’s attempt to turn the ball in at the far post saw the ball loop up and over the bar. Seconds later a long range effort from Watters was parried away to safety and as the momentum gathered and an equaliser beckoning the Crow’s were caught by a sucker counter attack and the G’s put the game out of reach when Frith made it 2-0.
The Crows continued to push on and despite being a man down were an equal match for their opponents but failed to create any clear openings against a solid defensive line. As the game petered out the referee once again was centre of attention when he produced another flurry of cards, two straight reds for Godalming players for what seemed to be a stamping and headbutt were followed by a yellow for Wharton and the game limped to an uninspiring conclusion.
