|Match||Fox & Duck Therfield v Royston Town Vets|
Town Vets made the short trip to Therfield for the local derby match with Fox & Duck and got back to winning ways with a convincing 7-3 victory.
Mark Saggers put Town ahead after 15 minutes with a well-placed right-foot shot over the ‘keeper and Wayne Hargreaves marked his return to vets football with a fierce volley before Fox & Duck reduced arrears. Saggers then restored Town’s 2-goal advantage before the break.
Steve Starling had an outstanding game leading the front line and was unlucky not to score himself but set up fellow striker Peter Leete to head in to make the score 4-1. Town then conceded a free kick near the left corner flag and Fox & Duck pounced on the attempted clearance by Town’s defence from the resultant cross and deservedly reduced the deficit. Nejat Kocak extended Town’s lead again with a fine finish inside the six-yard area before Fox & Duck scored a controversial third goal when ‘keeper Simon Dobson appeared to have the ball kicked from his hands and as the ball trickled along the goal-line Nick King kicked the ball into his own net in attempting the clearance.
Leete then scored the goal of the game with a tremendous right-foot shot from 30 yards that struck the underside of the bar on its way past a helpless home ‘keeper.
Steve Gourd made it 7-3 for Town when he lobbed the advancing ‘keeper to notch his first goal for Town.
